Meet the Candidate
Tamika L. Abrum is a dedicated community advocate, public servant, and leader committed to improving the lives of families across District 33. Born and raised in Memphis, Tennessee, Tamika has deep roots in the community and a firsthand understanding of the challenges facing working families, seniors, and children. Her work has been guided by a strong belief that every person deserves to be heard, respected, and represented by leaders who are present, accountable, and responsive.
For years, Tamika has been actively engaged in community advocacy, focusing on issues that directly impact seniors, parents, and youth. As a community advocate for seniors, she has worked to ensure older adults have access to resources, support, and a voice in decisions that affect their quality of life. She has also supported families by helping them navigate systems that can often feel overwhelming, ensuring they are equipped with the tools and knowledge needed to advocate for themselves and their loved ones.
Tamika has been a vocal advocate for transparency and accountability within Memphis-Shelby County Schools. She has stood alongside parents and community members to address concerns about leadership, financial management, and the direction of the school system. Her advocacy has centered on the belief that every child deserves access to a high-quality education, strong leadership, and the resources necessary to succeed both inside and outside the classroom.
In addition to her advocacy efforts, Tamika volunteers with a local nonprofit organization dedicated to helping parents identify the best educational opportunities for their children. Through this work, she empowers families with the knowledge and confidence to effectively advocate within the education system, ensuring their children’s needs are met and their futures are protected.
Tamika’s decision to run for the Tennessee State Senate was driven by what she has witnessed firsthand in her community residents who feel unheard, concerns that go unanswered, and a lack of consistent, visible leadership. She believes that government should work for the people, not against them, and that elected officials have a responsibility to be accessible, transparent, and solution-focused.
If elected, Tamika is committed to prioritizing issues that matter most to District 33, including improving education, supporting seniors, strengthening families, and ensuring greater accountability in government. She will work to build trust between the community and elected officials by being present, listening actively, and taking meaningful action.
Tamika L. Abrum’s leadership is rooted in service, integrity, and a deep commitment to the people she seeks to represent. She is running to bring real change to District 33 grounded in advocacy, driven by community voices, and focused on delivering real results, not just promises.
